General Information - Demographics
Romania has a population of 22.5 million inhabitants and is a member of the European Board of Urology (EBU). 45 Urological Departments are operating all over the country. There are 250 Urologists (1 urologist per 90,000 inhabitants) and 95 Residents (1 resident per approx. 3 urologists).

Urological training
Admission
in residency follows to a national exam of admittance in residency or an
employment at University of Medicine (e.g. Fellow or Ass. Prof.). Training
period is of 5 years: 1 year for surgery (general, vascular and thoracic), 3
months for nephrology, 3 months for radiology and ultrasonography, 3 months
urodynamics and 3 years and 6 months of urology. Each of these periods finishes
with an exam and, at the end of the residency an exit exam exists, which consist
in a written, a clinical and an operative probe. Only those, which obtains
min.70% from max. Pts. are certified as urologist, having right to practice in
public, private (or both) system. Obtaining an PhD is possible even during this
period.
Career prospects
We have to find a job in a public hospital, an outpatient department or in private. Other alternative is to be accepted to continue with a university career. CME is mandatory, each one’s file being reviewed at 5 years.
