Urological training

For graduating in Medicine in Moldova one has to complete 6 yrs of basic medical education followed by a common entrance test for entry into specialty courses.

The medical education can be undertaken in one of the  3 languages: English, Romanian or Russian.

To be a specialist in Urology one has to undergo a training for 4 years which includes 6 months of training in General Surgery followed by 3 yrs and 6 months in Urology .

This training also includes posting in Sub-specialties:

1) Lithotripsy: 3months

2) Pediatric Urology: 3 months

3) Onco-Urology: 2 months

4) Gynecology: 1month

After completing 4 years it is necessary to take an exit exam before one can be awarded the degree of a specialist Urologist and a license to practice as a urologist in Moldova. Only those urologists who are Moldavian nationals are allowed to practice in Moldova .

Career prospects

The standard of training in Urology in Moldova is good when it comes to open surgeries, lithotripsy, hemodialysis and renal transplant but the training in endoscopic urology needs a lot of improvement. It is mainly due to the existing economic conditions that there is a lot of delay in the proper implementation of minimal invasive surgery in Urology .It can only improve with the support from the western European Countries.

Fellowship - Research Opportunities

There is a certified postgraduate research program or PhD after the completion of the residency program.

The residents also actively participate in the intra or inter departmental research projects .

There is no existing Fellowship program here in Moldova .
