Urological training

After graduating Medical School we have one year of general practice. After that we must pass an national exam and qualify for urological studies, which lasts six years. We can start urological training only at departments, which have accreditation of Ministry of Health. Up to 2001yr there was a double-step educational postgradual system. In new system we have to  work in surgical department during the first two years of training (incl. 9 months of general surgery, 6 months of vascular surgery, 4 months of laparoscopic surgery). Next 48 months we work in urological ward. During training we participate in several courses organized by Department of Postgraduate Medicine, which are mandatory. Participation in EUREP is strongly recommended and participation in at least one In Service Exam is compulsory. After that we take Degree Exam in Urology (written, oral and practical part). The written part is held on November each year and is Polish language-version of EBU test. When we pass this exam, we are qualified urologists.

Career prospects

As urologists we can work at any hospital with a urological department or we can have our own private practice. To work as a private urologist we need to pass the Degree Exam in Urology..

Fellowship - Research Opportunities

There is the  Commission of Scientific Research at Polish governement in the. If we are interested in doing some urological research, we can ask this agency for funding, but we succeed only if the project is good enough. If resident works on academic urological department, he can use internal academic resources and grants.
